The API bills in credits, the same credits you spend to unlock contacts in the app. One currency everywhere. There is no separate API subscription: you buy a plan, the plan grants credits, and the API spends them per call.
What a call costs

Enterprise accounts bypass credit charges entirely.
Every response reports the spend and your live balance in a meta object: { "creditsCharged": 5, "creditsBalance": 2995 } (on the people-detail reveal these sit at the top level). When your balance is too low for a call, the API returns 402 Payment Required and charges nothing.
How many calls a plan buys
Credits come from your plan. A data call is 5 credits; a private reveal is 10.

Mix freely: 3,000 credits is any combination of 5-credit reads and 10-credit reveals. Unused credits roll over up to twice your monthly grant. See Plans & Pricing.
Why a private reveal costs more
Reaching a person is the valuable action, in the app and in the API. A private channel pulled through the API is priced to be at least the in-app unlock cost, so the API is never a cheaper back door around the app.
Funding an account

Higher volume
